Bristol trio Poisonous Birds, spearheaded by vocalist/producer Tom Ridley, are a difficult band to pigeonhole, colliding the brooding electronic atmospheres of underground techno with post-rock and the knack for a pop hook, resulting in a truly original and totally captivating assault on the senses.
After their ever-evolving, semi-improvised live shows caused a stir in their hometown of Bristol, feat. Finn Mclean on the drum kit and Jack Barrett on electric guitar, the trio were asked to join the elusive Sleep Token on tour in January 2020, and followed up with a pair of EPs later in the year.
Attracting comparisons to Radiohead, 65daysofstatic, HEALTH and local friends SCALPING, the new EP We Can Never Not Be All Of Us (released in August 2020, after April’s collaborative Low Tide…” with Mark Holley of Black Foxxes) is the group’s boldest work to date – spanning 6 tracks of undulating textures and fragile, desperate vocalwork, collapsing to reveal moments of dancefloor-friendly ecstasy.
With support from Radio 1, Kerrang!, Audiotree, Amazing Radio + more the project is finally making the waves it deserves and will see the trio climbing bills in 2021.
