Lowen is a London-based Middle Eastern progressive doom band, blending traditional and heavy elements to create a deeply atmospheric sound. Comprised of Nina Saeidi on vocals, daf, santoor, and more, alongside Shem Lucas on guitar and Cal Constantine on drums, the band’s music is defined by mournful wails and the unique use of traditional tahrir vocals from Iran. Saeidi, born into exile from Iran, explores the pain of displaced identity, with her vocals reflecting the struggles of the diasporically dispossessed. The band’s sound fuses doom, post-rock, and Middle Eastern traditions, offering a poignant exploration of exile, longing, and survival.
