Palmeras Negras is a quintet hailing from Almería, Spain, whose sound has evolved significantly since their early days as a trio. Originally formed by Jesús Barrau (vocals, guitar, and synthesizers), Diego García (bass and screams), and Jesús Torres (guitar), the band quickly expanded to a quartet with the addition of Víctor Gutiérrez on drums. This new lineup allowed them to push the boundaries of their sound, which has evolved from shoegaze and emo influences to incorporate elements of doomgaze and slowcore. With arrangements reminiscent of bands like Low, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, American Football, and Black Country, New Road, Palmeras Negras continues to innovate and refine their distinct, atmospheric sound.
